MEN’S GOLF
The men’s golf team split up to compete in two different tournaments over the weekend. The varsity squad spent two days at the LTU Invite at TPC Deere Run in Silvis (Ill.) where they finished 13th with a 622 (310-312).
Chance Bressler paced Huntington by firing an eight-over-par 150 (76-74) for 20th place out of 96 golfers. David Beck was next for Dwyer’s crew with a 155 (80-75) for 45th place. Colby Martin carded a 157 (76-81). Rounding out HU’s scores included Peyton Richmond (78-82) and Quin Edwards (81-88) with a 160 and 169 respectively.
“The team continues to make strides in the right direction,” said Coach Connor Dwyer. “We cut our double bogeys or worse in half this week compared to our last tournament. We still have some work to do but it’s good to see constant improvements.”
Southeastern claimed the team title with a 589 followed by Morningside (595), UNOH (596), Lawrence Tech (597), St. Ambrose (598), Marian (606), Mount Mercy (606), Doane (609), Spring Arbor (609), Culver Stockton (611), Jamestown (618), HU (622), Midland (623), Indiana Tech (635), Illinois Valley CC (637), Graceland (638), Madonna (638) and IUSB (675).
The Forester B team spent Saturday at Zollner Golf Course for the AC Eddy Invitational hosted by Trine where they finished 10th out of 13 teams by turning in a 320.
Mitchell Wilson fired a two-over-par 73 to lead Coach Dwyer’s crew for a 5th place finish. Kaleb Ketchum and Carter Roseboom each posted an 81 to tie for 47th while Hank Pulver turned in an 85 to finish HU’s score.
“The Huntington team at Zollner also played well,” said Dwyer. “It was good to see some of the guys who may not have seen as many tournaments as the others go out and play fairly well in tough conditions.
“Mitch and Chance both played very well this week in leading the teams. They minimized mistakes and took advantage of good shots.”
Huntington is back in action April 18 for the Ackerman-Allen Shootout.
