After sweeping Marian (17-19, 9-13) in their first meeting several weeks back, the HU baseball team felt the sting of a returned favor Tuesday afternoon by suffering a pair of losses, 5-2, 19-5, to the Knights to make for a 2-2 regular season series draw.

HU’s bats were relatively quietly all day at Forest Glen. In game one, the Foresters managed just three hits with the biggest run-producing smack coming by way of Jarett Gray’s long ball in the ninth. Matt Wolff accounted for the hosts’ other run in the sixth with an RBI-groundout that scored Satchell Wilson who had logged one of three Huntington’s base pokes.

Unfortunately, both runs came too little too late as the Knights jumped in front 4-0 and never looked back.

Max Meisner was charged with the loss on the bump having tossed the first 4.1 innings where he gave up seven hits, three runs and a walk while striking out two.

The Foresters would rather forget the nightcap as they could not match the Marian’s firepower at the plate. The guests exchanged 16 hits, only three for extra bases, ten walks and two hit batters for 19 runs to leave HU in the dust.

It came at the expense of seven different Huntington pitchers taking a turn on the hump with Graham Kollen getting tagged with the loss. He tossed the first 1.2 innings and gave up five hits, six runs and three walks while striking out two.

Ian McCutcheon and Wolff each sent one long to account for the majority of HU’s offense.  Wolff’s blast was a solo shot in the fourth while McCutcheon’s was a two-run dinger in the fifth. Langston Ginder also brought in a pair of runs with a double to the left a few batters after McCutcheon’s sailed one over the left field fence.

McCutcheon has piled up nine homers this season, 13 for his career, while Wolff has six to his name this spring.

With these losses, HU drops to 17-15 overall, 15-9 in league play. They return to Forest Glen this weekend to host Bethel.
