The Forester track and field program hosted its annual Huntington Invitational Thursday afternoon at King Stadium. On the day, HU claimed six first place finishes and set a new school record.
On the men’s side, Dylan Felger was a double winner for Childs’ crew. The speedster won the 200 meters (22.12) and the 400 meters (49.45). Zachary Collins also had himself a day by not only winning the 100 meters in 10.73 but setting a new school record as well. The rookie sprinter also took 2nd in the 200 meters in 22.54.
Justin Edwards crossed the line first in the 110 meter hurdles by clocking in at 16.32 while Noah Bise also claimed the top spot in long jump with his leap of 6.90 meters.
Huntington was well represented in the 1500 meters with Elijah Chesterman leading the pack with his first-place time of 4:06.41. A string of three Foresters finished next which included Reece Gibson (4:11.25), Matthew Hyter (4:11.85) and Aaron Hendryx (4:14.44). Austin Liepe (4:15.96) and Kent Yoder (4:15.96) finished 6th and 7th respectively to round out the hosts’ dominant performance.
Other top five finishes for HU included Kyler Bourne in pole vault (2nd, 4.15 meters) and Seth Parsell in hammer (5th, 41.07 meters) and javelin (5th, 40.25 meters).
The HU women had several top five finishes on the day. Sydni Ausberry set a new PR in the 100 meters with her time of 12.42 good for 3rd place. It moved her from 5th to 4th in the HU record books.
The Foresters had two top times in the 1500 meters with Abigail Mays posting a 2nd place finish in 5:01.77 and Emily Tedder taking 4th in 5:05.74. Childs’ squad also landed two throwers in the top five in javelin with Aanyah Wright snagging 2nd (29.36 meters) and Siera Weathers finishing 5th (23.55 meters).
Wright also had an impressive outing in the hammer to finish 4th in 43.81 meters which proves a PR and moves her from 6th to 5th in the program history. Madeline Gile was also a top-five finisher for HU by running a 2:36.85 in the 800 meters for 5th place.
Next up is the Indiana Little State Championships on April 22-23.
