SOFTBALL

The HU softball team came up short twice, 5-0, 10-3, against #17 Marian Friday afternoon at MU Softball Field. After the two squads split the first time around, the Knights wrap up the regular season series against Huntington 3-1 with today’s two wins.

The Knights controlled game one starting in the third frame when they plated four runs. They would tack on one more before all was said and done. Kiera Stacy accounted for HU’s only two hits as offense did not come easy for Ehler and crew.

MacKyndsea Burke took the loss for HU in the circle by giving up 11 hits, five runs, only two of which were earned, and three walks.

The Foresters chased Marian in the nightcap as the hosts kicked things off with a two-run homer in the first on the way to opening up a 6-0 lead by the fourth. HU cut the lead in half in the next frame by scoring all three of their runs.

Huntington got creative in how they touched home. A Breanna Hines RBI-grounder and Abigail Reed RBI-walk sandwiched HU’s only run-producing hit, an RBI-single by Courtney Mason. It made for a 6-3 contest but the hosts weren’t ready to call it quits. MU piled up four more runs in the sixth to pull away for the win and complete the sweep.

Ehler’s crew finished with seven hits by seven Foresters.  Adelyn Harsh was charged with the loss. She tossed the first two innings and gave up five hits, three runs and two walks.

With these losses, HU drops to 13-24 overall which includes an 11-15 Crossroads League record. The Foresters are back at it tomorrow to play at #8 IWU.
