The 4th-seeded Huntington baseball team is moving on after blanking 5th-seeded Bethel, 8-0, Saturday night at Taylor’s Winterholter Field on opening day of the Crossroads League Tournament.

Tyler Papenbrock and Noah Arbuckle teamed up on the bump to shut down the Pilots at the plate. Papenbrock tossed the first seven frames where he struck out six batters and surrendered a mere four hits and four walks to snag the win after which Arbuckle threw two inning of hitless, scoreless relief.

The Foresters were in the driver’s seat by the second frame when Matt Wolff singled in a run and then eventually came around to score on a passed ball. Wolff found his way back on base in the fourth by ripping a double down the left field line after which Jarret Gray followed suit with a two-bagger of his own to trade places with Wolff and extend the lead to 3-0.

The fifth saw Langston Ginder bat in a run on a fielder’s choice and then cruise home on Satchell Wilson’s missile over the left field fence. It was Wilson’s fourth dinger of the year, the tenth of his career.

Daniel Lichty and Ian McCutcheon got in on the action in the eighth with an RBI-grounder and RBI-single respectively for a few more insurance runs to wrap up the game’s scoring.

McCutcheon finished with a game-leading three hits while Wilson, Wolff and Gray added two hits apiece.

With this win, the Foresters improve to 25-21 on the year and will go on to face 8th-seeded Saint Francis, who upset top-seeded Mount Vernon, Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Indiana Wesleyan.
