Spring Break Service Experience (CAP)

Pack up your bags and let’s go to Kentucky for Spring Break! The Friesen Center for Service and Experiential Learning is taking a van to participate with Christian Appalachian Project along with other state and private universities in the area. No skill level is required. Groups may assist in Housing and Elderly Housing programs, which serve low-income or homebound residents, the elderly, or persons with disabilities. Volunteer work may include remodeling an existing home by repairing floors and walls, hanging drywall, replacing doors and windows, applying Styrofoam insulation, installing vinyl siding and underpinning, building porches/handicap ramps, or completing other repairs to ensure a safe and warm home. For these individuals, this may be the only option available to have the necessary repairs so they might remain in their home.

CAP’s mission is “Building hope, transforming lives, and sharing Christ’s love through service in Appalachia.” Our missions teams share this love through their service on home repair projects. Although group participants are encouraged to share their faith when a conversation is initiated by the homeowner, evangelization is not an explicit component of CAP’s missions team opportunities.

All participants must be 18 years old or older to participate. Project video: https://vimeo.com/455797754

Cost: $100 for the week — including all meals from Sunday evening through Friday morning, transportation to CAP and the worksite, and lodging in CAP’s volunteer group facility.
